Product Care and Use
Woodenware is meant to be used daily, and if properly cared for will last for many years. Over time the wood will develop a lovely patina.
To clean, hand wash your item in warm soapy water and dry upside down. Do not put in a dishwasher or soak for more than a couple hours.
Wood will retain flavors and take on natural oils in the process of use. Because of this, you might want to keep your coffee cup separate from a tea cup or water cup. If you choose to re-oil your item, simply apply a small of amount of walnut or flax oil and wipe off the excess.
Do not pour boiling water into a dry cup or bowl. This will subject the wood to drastic heat changes and may eventually lead to a crack.
Special instructions for wooden cups
Please “break in” your cup/mug in order to acclimate it to the humidity of your home environment. Once or twice a day rinse the cup inside and out with tap water, then air dry. After a few days it should be ready to use for hot/cold liquids.
At the beginning some wooden cups might weep slightly around the base, but will seal through use and time. If this does not happen, pour 2-3 tablespoons of finely ground coffee or tea into the cup, fill the cup halfway with very warm water (but not boiling), stir and let sit for 10 minutes. Empty the cup and use it as normal. This should seal the pores. If not, repeat.
Do not pour boiling water directly into a dry cup or bowl. This will subject the wood to drastic heat changes and may eventually lead to a crack. Instead, after your water boils, let it sit for a few minutes or brew your beverage of choice in a separate container and then pour into your wooden cup or mug.
Wooden cups and mugs are not meant to be used for high alcohol spirits, unless they are coated in beeswax. If you would like a cup specifically for drinking spirits please contact me.
Do not let liquids sit in cup for more than a few hours. Do not put in a dishwasher or soak for more than a couple hours.
